INHERITANCE – PART ONE

There was no diamonds paved on these streets, no hood millionaires either. Lined against the pavement four black hearse awaiting their passengers as a small crowd formed. Mother Gee had been a pillar of the community, a leader of sorts. Now she was a corpse the belly of the beast had been ripped open. People from across the globe had arrived to pay their respects to one of the most feared women of all time. For almost two decade Mother Gee had taken charge of the corners and guided her entourage to success.

It was the job of dealer to sell a dream and that included the lifestyle. Mother Gee could sell anyone, anything. You see, it wasn’t the small time hustler driving the big bend off the corner who was making the money, it was the woman you never saw coming. Kya Gee pushed through the crowd until she reached a small opening and slipped into an empty hearse. Taking a deep breath she lay her hands in her lap and inhaled deeply once more. All her life she had lived without fear, confident her name alone would protect her. But, today the heart of their family was being laid to rest and no one was safe.

There was so many unanswered questions the air felt thick with the
heaviness of treason.

Someone knew who killed Mother Gee and that someone was among them.

The door opened and her steadying hands begun to shake once more. Sliding inside Shady told the driver to move.

“Its gonna be alright, Star.” he shrugged.

Folding her arms Kya kissed her teeth.

“How do you figure that! We are on our own!”

Pulling a spliff out of his top pocket he nudged her gently.

“Take this.”

Refusing Kya returned her gaze to the window. Watching the blocks as the car past by Kya rubbed a tear aggressively from her eyes. The solid grey concrete blocks had big dreams but the black clouds never strayed far from the top. There were good people here, families just trying to make it through the struggle but the hood had a way of seeping into your veins and taking over your natural senses.Secrets  buried in the foundation’s of the walls while the walking ghosts filled the stairwells with a sickly sweet thick haze.

Today the streets were empty, the hustlers and respectgul attendees. A trail of cars leading towards the cemetery had joined her family in their united front. Looking back at the parade she felt the bile rise to the back of her throat and closed her eyes tight willing the taste to dissappear. In her heart of hearts she knew Mother Gee would never die. Just like the legends before her she would lived forever on the edge of tongues, travelling whispers through the walls like the bogeyman.

Lighting the spliff Shady relaxed into the leather and exhaled.

“ She wasnt an easy woman to get to.”

Kya frowned. “She!”

“You know what I mean.”

Staring him down like and xray Kya looked for some sort of sign any form of trickery and saw none. Relaxing slightly she took the spliff as he offered it once more.

“Shady between me and you someone close to us did this.”

Shady nodded, exhaling the smoke into the cars interior before responding thoughtfully.

“Thats obivious whats not obvious is who the person is. She always told us our tume of
limited.”

“Why the fuxk you taking this so easy.” Kya snapped. ” Its like you have forgotten she was murdered for fuck sake.”

Suddenly thesmoke lost its flavour, handing it back she shook her head.

“Whoever dis this will be put to sleep.”

Shady nodded

“I wanna be there when they take that last nap.”

At that moment Kya had no idea how much her life was about to change.

BEYOND THE DARKNESS

She waited year for the devotion she laid out in return only to be disappointed. Taking her dignity and her pride she walked into the light. Standing in the darkness he yelled her name, drowned out by tumultuous rains. Refusing to look back she released her pain, she would never know darkness again. .
Moral of the story: Do not let another be the key to your happiness. Find peace in yourself and your happiness will find you…

H.M.D

H O L D  M E  D O W N…….
Nessa shrugged, “Whose laughing.”

Bling Carter lowered his gaze and sighed. In his entire reign he had never employed a woman to do a mans job, but his choices were limited. The loyal ones had dispersed and the flakes had abandoned ship. Everything around him was crumbling except the pretty thing standing before him. There was something about her eyes that bore into his soul like she had seen him before and it made him nervous.

Since Ashely had taken her under her wing a tiny seed of curiosity grew everytime he was in her presence. In a million years he would never intend to cheat on Ashley, only  Nessa was an intention he could not resist.
Pulling up his pants he sat back on the desk and folded his hands across his lap.

“You really trying to do this now!”

Nessa smirked before turning on her heels towards the door.

“Where you going?”

Nessa contained her laughter before retracting her steps.

“You know I don’t play games Bling. Let’s stop pretending.”

“Thats not the point, if Ashley finds out about this she will kill me!”

“What Ashely don’t know wont kill her, besides you know and I know I only work for the best” Nessa purred. “Weasle desrves it, he took out your bonafide and tried to kill you and for what?”

Blings body tensed and Nessa knew she hit a nerve. Everything she had done was leading up to this moment.

Dropping the stack of notes on the table Bling relented. Even in his doubt, Killer had vouched for her reliability and Ashley stood by her loyalty.

“When you do this you got to disappear, Weasles guys will be coming for everybody.”

Taking the pile with ease Nessa smiled.

“No problem Man.”

Slipping her concealed weapon from her sleeve she aimed and fired. Slumping forward Bling bled out onto the oak pine floor. Shaking her head Nessa wiped the tiny speckled of blood splatter off her face and grinned wickedly.

“There was a lesson here Bling too bad you didn’t stay in school.”

Tucking the notes carefully into her bag Nessa stepped out of the office and halted at the sight of the devil.

“I can explain.” She mumbled as the laser beam danced accurately across her forehead.

“You don’t think I would figure it out, huh, all them times man was fucking you the whole time you had your own plans.”

Swallowing the bile in her throat Nessa thought careful before she spoke.

“Saint, I speared you for a reason.”

Shaking his head Saint took a step closer.

“You didn’t so shit for me.” His hand shook as he yelled angrily. ” I’m the last man standing that puts a target on my back and you know it too.”

“I told you to come with me.” Nessa replied. “Your loyalty to Bling could have had to killed a long time ago but I choose to save you. We can make it together you dont need this.”

Nessa smiled at the memory of their time together and sighed. The vow to never reveal her identity was about to be broken and the love they had may be lost forever.

Saint tutted “Mans from the hood what the fuck can I do on a farm. This right here is my life and you wont steal it from me.” Steadying his hand he closed his eyes.

“Sinner.”

The whisper of her brothers name brought gasp from Saints lips as his eyes sprung open and his face drained of blood. Clutching the shaking gun Saint tried to block out the thunderous heart beat in his cranium. Sinner was dead. Ten years ago he had lost his best friend, a man he would never forget. The mere mention of his name made his blood run cold. Scowling he maintained focus on the target.

“What did you say.” He spat

Her voice barely a whisper Nessa uttered a mantra he had buried deep in his chest.

“The Sinner can only be saved by the Saint.”

Saint shook his head. “Who told you that?” He scolded.

Nessa curled her lips slightly as she saw her brother standing beside Saint as if he was still alive.

“You did when I was seven years old saying goodbye to by brother.”

Saints arm fell, his stomach content whirling wildly as he stared at the woman he knew internally. They had shared a bed, he had explored her in ways a man could only explore a woman.

“Your lying! Someone told you that story and your trying to confuse me!” Saint replied.

“Saint, I never lied to you not even when I said I love you!”

“Fuck love this is about survival and I’m a survivor.”

The Silent Scream

.
As the haze lifted Lara had been instructed not to move. An hour ago, she had been sipping a warm tea now she was strapped to a chair. Her chest heaved as she panicked, struggling against the bonds she winced as the rope cut through her flesh. Jace remained unbothered by Laras moans of confusion as pulled the ropes tighter. .
“You dont have to do this.” Lara groaned. .
“I dont but I will.”
.
” Just let me go!”
.
” I asked my husband the same thing. Everytime he was with you I was alone I begged for him to let me go.”
.
“You can go now, please let me go.” Lara cried.
.
“Its too late! You shouldn’t have come here.” Jace hissed, angrily.
.
“I came to warn you! He is going to kill you.”
.
Jace chuckled deeply before rounding the chair. Standing before the woman she had tried to contour up in her head and her blood boiled.
.
“You don’t get it do you! He has to otherwise he will get nothing.”
.
Lara lowered her gaze as Jace glared at her menacingly. Biting her trembling lip she tasted the salty tears falling from her eyes.
.
Lifted her chin with her fingertip Jace smiled. .
“Congratulations your sugar daddy ain’t so sweet anymore. ” .
“I wasn’t in it for the money.” Lara argued. “He loved me and I loved him!”
.
Rolling her eyes Jace pulled the edge of the tape and grinned.
.
“Silence.” She whispered as she rubbed the duct tape across Lara’s lips. “I’m about to teach you a lesson about love and I want you to hear every single word………….

VIBES

B THE VIBE, DON’T LET THE VIBE B U||
.
The energy you give out is the energy you get back. That’s what they say! But, how much time have you put your all into something and seen little return. The point is we live and we learn. You cannot let the energy of others seep into your space.
.
The truth is you exude the vibe you surround yourself in. Create a Vibe that lives beyond the confines of others and dims your light. Be you! Be the Vibe….
Do not let that deter you from being who you are instead, use that to create your own vibe. .

UNREAL

Reece had waited through the depths of the night without a glimpse of her in the distance. Shuddering from the morning breeze he pulled the sleeping bag tighter around his frame. Everyone else was asleep inside the warm tent. How could he sleep with her on his mind! Nobody believed he had seen a thing, but he knew she was real.
.
As the sun rose above the sea line he spotted movement in the distance. The passing dolphin flipped her fin and swam away. Dropping his cover he rose form his spot and kicked the sand beneath his feet.  Strolling towards the sand dune he looked back at the sea disappointed, maybe he didn’t see her after all.
.
“Are you waiting for me?”
.
She smiled shyly as he remained mute. Stunned he stared in  amazement, her hair a mass of spongy curls and her torso standing on two feet. “Do you speak?” .
“I thought you were a…” Reece replied, unable to complete his sentence. .
….
“A what?”
…..
“A mermaid.” .
The words sounded so silly but the mermaid had been so real.
.
She chuckled lightly, “Don’t be silly mermaids dont exsist!”
.
Shrugging Reece kicked the dirt once more. “Guess they were right then, I am mad.”
.
“My family think I’m mad too, they never come to the beach.” She replied. .

“We come every summer.”
….
“I know.” She whispered. .
….
Reece forgot about time in her presence, the sound of his name drifting across the waves pulled him out of her trance. Walking through the short path of dunes he realised he didn’t even know her name. Retracing his steps he saw no sign of her.
.
From her perch in the sea she watched him walk away with her in his memories. .

B L O S S O M

He stood at the patio door and watched her move the leaves away from the root of her tree. The way her back bent ever so slightly and her hands danced across the leaves evoked his memories. Sometimes she had been withered and badly beaten by the rains but never once did she complain. Standing tall in the summer sun she would clutch her petals and bloom again. Smiling he observed as she walked towards him an old twinkle in her eye. It amazed him that while the tide of nature slowly approached and their final winter was almost due he still looked at her as a fresh summers bloom. .

T E A  A N Y O N E.

.
While compiling some research I stumbled upon the essays  of Stuart Hall, I was amazed at his intricate analysis of identity and ethnicity. Understanding the importance of  cultural identity and ethnicity and its connection to the individual make up of ones identity. Brings me to my point –  Lately there has been a surge in black media and literature and I guess that can be attributed to the growth in creative outlets. The black narrative has long since been ignored by british mainstream media and the absence of the authentic voice reduces the effectiveness of developement in these essential areas. In order to address the lack of diversity in books and provide books or media that displays this, we need more writers of colour. It is essential we tell our own stories in our own voices.
