#INMEMORYOF1996

1996:
The nineties was the era of disposable #cameras and grainy pictures. Double exposure or floating blobs of light distorting faces.
.
You would be lucky enough to get one clear shot.
.
Gone was the illuminious coloured shell suits and accessories.
.
#SaltnPepa had #revolutionised leather jackets and large hoops. #Envouge gave us something we could feel and #SWV made us Weak. #KrissKross  wore their clothes backwards and #Snoopdogg brought rompers to life.
.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT THE #NINETIES?

Comment Below…

Jodeci

The musicial melodies of the nineties is what I loved the most.

#BACKINTHEDAY I went to #Jodeci concert, I can remember it like it was yesterday. The walkway between #Wembleypark and #Wembleyarena was packed with concert goers. To my horror my mother decided we should walk through the crowd even though, we were not going. I was so disappointed my bottom lip had fallen below sea level,  beleive me walking through the excited crowd was the last thing I wanted to do. When my mother handed me an envelope I didnt pay attention to her neat handwriting across the front. Instead, I almost ripped the envelope in half through fustration.
.
Inside the envelope was TWO FRONT ROW TICKETS, seat one and two.
.
#mamacamethrough
.
I screamed and cried at the same time. #charlieandthechocolatefactory had nothing on me.
.
After a few hours of #MaryJBlige and others it was time for Jodeci. I almost fainted when Devonte slowly pulled his pants halfway .
.
This new project I am working on is called
.
“In memory of 1996.”
.
Playing old songs and watching old movies has enabled a re-education. #80sbaby #90sgirl..

.

REPLAY:
#Music is a key part of life! There is nothing like a good #lovesong or  break up song. Back in the day all these female groups were #influential. #Creating a project combine with music draws on #emotions and #feelings while creating a #mood.
.
Putting together a nineties #playlist to play while writing I forgot how many songs were unforgettable. I’m sure the #neighbours will be complaining about the noise tomorrow, but hey we only live once. #carpediem.
.
So, in the spirit of the 90s Let’s play a #game..

Q & A

Hey Guys and Dolls,

I made a post a while back #askmeanything and I received a few questions on my INSTAGRAM AND FACEBOOK STORY. Although this was some time ago it is never to late.

So , below are the answers you have been looking for!

If I have missed anything comment below….

1. Do you only write fiction?

For now, yes.

2. What’s your favorite book?

I cannot pick one it would be doing an injustice to the others, seriously.

3.How long have you been writing?

It feels like forever, but I really took it serious in year five when my teacher took great interest in my work. My teacher was determined to see me succeed advocating for advance curriculum.

4.What inspired you to write?

I loved reading from a young age and I fell in love with the characters in Roald Dahls extensive collection, before graduating to Judy Bloom and R. L. Stine. I guess I just wanted to create my own little worlds that black girls existed in. It was always apparent that none of the characters I read about lived in my world. When I was introduced to Rosa Guy I began searching for black narratives far and wide. Essentially my love of books inspired me to put bed to paper.

5.Do you know that there are very few black British writers?

As far as statistics are concerned there is a limit number of black writers and illustrators in the field. However, when you cast you eyes across instagram beneath the hashtag #blackbristhwriters more than a few pop up. There are many resources available via social media and Web outlets. Multiple #illustrators and #digitalartist fully capable of providing services required ate accessible.

There is a hashtag for everything

#editor

#publisher

…you get the drift..

#publishers

6. How do you make contact with other authors and publishers?

As a independent writer finding the right people and sourcing the correct services can be difficult. Do not fret, social media has a whole heap of options available to you.

It is important to forge relationships with like minded individuals. So, send a few messages to illustrators and editors you like or better yet click their links and complete your own research.

By sending a personal message you could potentially curate a productive relationship that can also be beneficial to both parties in terms of advice and support.

Disclamer: If you get no reply please do not badger anyone. ONE message is enough!

Also there are many loops on Instagram connecting likeminded people. Requirements to join are below in their description box, each look is different. Currently I am fascinapted with #blackwomenlooping.

@blkwomenlooping

7. Do You ever feel like giving up?

The independent publishing world is a lonely place. So, yes I have multiple times, but something always makes me go back to doing what I love. In someways it helps me stay sane. Don’t be put of by the fact you might be doing this alone. This should help you remain focused on your goal.

Thank you for reading #askmeanything

INHERITANCE – PART ONE

There was no diamonds paved on these streets, no hood millionaires either. Lined against the pavement four black hearse awaiting their passengers as a small crowd formed. Mother Gee had been a pillar of the community, a leader of sorts. Now she was a corpse the belly of the beast had been ripped open. People from across the globe had arrived to pay their respects to one of the most feared women of all time. For almost two decade Mother Gee had taken charge of the corners and guided her entourage to success.

It was the job of dealer to sell a dream and that included the lifestyle. Mother Gee could sell anyone, anything. You see, it wasn’t the small time hustler driving the big bend off the corner who was making the money, it was the woman you never saw coming. Kya Gee pushed through the crowd until she reached a small opening and slipped into an empty hearse. Taking a deep breath she lay her hands in her lap and inhaled deeply once more. All her life she had lived without fear, confident her name alone would protect her. But, today the heart of their family was being laid to rest and no one was safe.

There was so many unanswered questions the air felt thick with the
heaviness of treason.

Someone knew who killed Mother Gee and that someone was among them.

The door opened and her steadying hands begun to shake once more. Sliding inside Shady told the driver to move.

“Its gonna be alright, Star.” he shrugged.

Folding her arms Kya kissed her teeth.

“How do you figure that! We are on our own!”

Pulling a spliff out of his top pocket he nudged her gently.

“Take this.”

Refusing Kya returned her gaze to the window. Watching the blocks as the car past by Kya rubbed a tear aggressively from her eyes. The solid grey concrete blocks had big dreams but the black clouds never strayed far from the top. There were good people here, families just trying to make it through the struggle but the hood had a way of seeping into your veins and taking over your natural senses.Secrets  buried in the foundation’s of the walls while the walking ghosts filled the stairwells with a sickly sweet thick haze.

Today the streets were empty, the hustlers and respectgul attendees. A trail of cars leading towards the cemetery had joined her family in their united front. Looking back at the parade she felt the bile rise to the back of her throat and closed her eyes tight willing the taste to dissappear. In her heart of hearts she knew Mother Gee would never die. Just like the legends before her she would lived forever on the edge of tongues, travelling whispers through the walls like the bogeyman.

Lighting the spliff Shady relaxed into the leather and exhaled.

“ She wasnt an easy woman to get to.”

Kya frowned. “She!”

“You know what I mean.”

Staring him down like and xray Kya looked for some sort of sign any form of trickery and saw none. Relaxing slightly she took the spliff as he offered it once more.

“Shady between me and you someone close to us did this.”

Shady nodded, exhaling the smoke into the cars interior before responding thoughtfully.

“Thats obivious whats not obvious is who the person is. She always told us our tume of
limited.”

“Why the fuxk you taking this so easy.” Kya snapped. ” Its like you have forgotten she was murdered for fuck sake.”

Suddenly thesmoke lost its flavour, handing it back she shook her head.

“Whoever dis this will be put to sleep.”

Shady nodded

“I wanna be there when they take that last nap.”

At that moment Kya had no idea how much her life was about to change.

H.M.D

H O L D  M E  D O W N…….
Nessa shrugged, “Whose laughing.”

Bling Carter lowered his gaze and sighed. In his entire reign he had never employed a woman to do a mans job, but his choices were limited. The loyal ones had dispersed and the flakes had abandoned ship. Everything around him was crumbling except the pretty thing standing before him. There was something about her eyes that bore into his soul like she had seen him before and it made him nervous.

Since Ashely had taken her under her wing a tiny seed of curiosity grew everytime he was in her presence. In a million years he would never intend to cheat on Ashley, only  Nessa was an intention he could not resist.
Pulling up his pants he sat back on the desk and folded his hands across his lap.

“You really trying to do this now!”

Nessa smirked before turning on her heels towards the door.

“Where you going?”

Nessa contained her laughter before retracting her steps.

“You know I don’t play games Bling. Let’s stop pretending.”

“Thats not the point, if Ashley finds out about this she will kill me!”

“What Ashely don’t know wont kill her, besides you know and I know I only work for the best” Nessa purred. “Weasle desrves it, he took out your bonafide and tried to kill you and for what?”

Blings body tensed and Nessa knew she hit a nerve. Everything she had done was leading up to this moment.

Dropping the stack of notes on the table Bling relented. Even in his doubt, Killer had vouched for her reliability and Ashley stood by her loyalty.

“When you do this you got to disappear, Weasles guys will be coming for everybody.”

Taking the pile with ease Nessa smiled.

“No problem Man.”

Slipping her concealed weapon from her sleeve she aimed and fired. Slumping forward Bling bled out onto the oak pine floor. Shaking her head Nessa wiped the tiny speckled of blood splatter off her face and grinned wickedly.

“There was a lesson here Bling too bad you didn’t stay in school.”

Tucking the notes carefully into her bag Nessa stepped out of the office and halted at the sight of the devil.

“I can explain.” She mumbled as the laser beam danced accurately across her forehead.

“You don’t think I would figure it out, huh, all them times man was fucking you the whole time you had your own plans.”

Swallowing the bile in her throat Nessa thought careful before she spoke.

“Saint, I speared you for a reason.”

Shaking his head Saint took a step closer.

“You didn’t so shit for me.” His hand shook as he yelled angrily. ” I’m the last man standing that puts a target on my back and you know it too.”

“I told you to come with me.” Nessa replied. “Your loyalty to Bling could have had to killed a long time ago but I choose to save you. We can make it together you dont need this.”

Nessa smiled at the memory of their time together and sighed. The vow to never reveal her identity was about to be broken and the love they had may be lost forever.

Saint tutted “Mans from the hood what the fuck can I do on a farm. This right here is my life and you wont steal it from me.” Steadying his hand he closed his eyes.

“Sinner.”

The whisper of her brothers name brought gasp from Saints lips as his eyes sprung open and his face drained of blood. Clutching the shaking gun Saint tried to block out the thunderous heart beat in his cranium. Sinner was dead. Ten years ago he had lost his best friend, a man he would never forget. The mere mention of his name made his blood run cold. Scowling he maintained focus on the target.

“What did you say.” He spat

Her voice barely a whisper Nessa uttered a mantra he had buried deep in his chest.

“The Sinner can only be saved by the Saint.”

Saint shook his head. “Who told you that?” He scolded.

Nessa curled her lips slightly as she saw her brother standing beside Saint as if he was still alive.

“You did when I was seven years old saying goodbye to by brother.”

Saints arm fell, his stomach content whirling wildly as he stared at the woman he knew internally. They had shared a bed, he had explored her in ways a man could only explore a woman.

“Your lying! Someone told you that story and your trying to confuse me!” Saint replied.

“Saint, I never lied to you not even when I said I love you!”

“Fuck love this is about survival and I’m a survivor.”

B L O S S O M

He stood at the patio door and watched her move the leaves away from the root of her tree. The way her back bent ever so slightly and her hands danced across the leaves evoked his memories. Sometimes she had been withered and badly beaten by the rains but never once did she complain. Standing tall in the summer sun she would clutch her petals and bloom again. Smiling he observed as she walked towards him an old twinkle in her eye. It amazed him that while the tide of nature slowly approached and their final winter was almost due he still looked at her as a fresh summers bloom. .

SUMMER LOVIN’

The summer had came and settled in preparation for the passing Autumn breeze. Yet, here they were still stuck in the heat of their love. Four whole weeks of discovery gathering pieces of each other and storing them inside memories. That time had come to an end and the reality of life lost in fairy tale adventures and stolen kisses had come to an end. Who had thought she would find a gem in the small coastal village.

The bench had grown warm beneath them as they huddled together beneath the shelter.

“Will I ever see you again?” He asked.
.
There was no easy way to say goodbye so she intended to do it fast. Shaking her head she wiped away the wisps of hair that clung to her face and gazed into his eyes. “I don’t think so!”
.
Clutching her hands in his he frowned. ” What about us.”

Shaking her hands free of his she lowered her gaze from his intensity. “I mean we had fun but….””

We can write, I can call, maybe I could even come for a visit.” He pleaded.
.
An image of her father crossed her mind and she shuddered. “I don’t think my father would approve but I could write I suppose.” She shrugged.
.
“Good.” He gushed. “I will write first thing.”

It was that simple, his way into her future. A letter arrived two days later with all intentions of love and a romantic reunion. Notting down a few words she returned her page with a second class stamp and forgot about her summer love only he hadn’t forgotten her. The snow fell from the sky and landed upon the earth leaving a white carpet behind. Footsteps led up to the doorstep his hand upon the bell. The summer that was only meant to last a season, the holiday love she had forgotten spilled into her winter turning white snow rosy red. .

THE HAZE

As she walked through the valley of the unknown she danced with slight apprehendsion of what is yet to come.
.
The extraordinary sights not yet in her  mentions or even love from the man whom would be the one
Fluttering through the haze she sees the path to follow.
.
Taking flight she revells in the risks of living
intending to live a life that keeps on giving.

THE TRUTH: PART ONE

She had waited long enough, pulling her phone from her pocket she dailled once more. Cursing as the connection dropped she redailled with urgency.

“Kale.” Sighing as an automated service played in her ears she took a deep breath and waited for the beep.

“Kale, I tried to tell you in person. I owed you that much! But as usual I reside on the back burner and the streets come first. Well..I need you to know that I never meant to hurt you but after years of living in the shadows I had a moment of weakness I can explain. Dont be mad at Da…” her words fell into the silence as the automated service kicked in once more.

“To re-record your message press 1.”

It had been a long time since Kale had promised her his undecided attention but the more she waited the less magical his attention became. Between the folds of the streets and beneath the armpit of his non – biological blood brother she was a distant third. Holding onto the suitcase she surveyed the room she had tried to make a boudoir of love and pleasure with a pinch of regret.

Everybody had warned her about the bonded brothers and the failed relationships that had befallen Kale, that was no deterent. Six foot tall and the prefect shade of darkness she had dreamt of his chiselled body before its conquer. Dreams had been built in here, the heart of their home but just as Kale would never truly be hers the house wouldn’t either. A choice had to made and she knew Kale would never be strong enough to make it. That’s why she was making the hard desicion for him. Sliding the wheels along the wooden flooring her feet dragging as she descended upon the door. It was as easy as reaching out and pulling the handle but her body wouldn’t allow her.

“I made my choice!” She exclaimed to no one in particular.Streching out her hand, the cold metal in her palm she pulled down and closed her eyes as metal buckled beneath the power of mechanisms. The sunlight greeted her with a warm smile as she stepped onto the pavement and inhaled deeply. Distracted by her thoughts of freedom, revelling in her truth she bore no witness to the death that held her within it’s sights.

A rhythm racing through her body with every step further away from her proverbial prison she felt her chains breaking. Pausing for thought at the florist on the corner she wondered if the flowers could feel the eurphoria pulsing through her veins as she fingered the gentle petals.

“Going somewhere.”

Rising from her crouching position she stood rigid gazing down at the flowers withering in the presence of death.

“Are you following me?”

“Do I need to?” Daze whispered.

“I’m grown.”

“Your also carrying precious cargo that could belong to me so I see no issue in ensuring your doing right by my baby.”

A churning in a stomach drove the nausea to the back of her throat as her disgust consumed her.

“I’m sure my brother would be interested to know his wifey is nothing but a careless gyal “

Facing him with venom mustered from her hate she choked upon her words as Kale strolled across the road towards their confrontation. Stepping into his arms she inhale his cologne as he hugex her softly, kissing her lovingly he stepped back and observed the suitcase with confusion.

Pointing the object of confusion he quizzed “Whats going on here? You leaving me?”

Daze chuckled ” Same thing I said brudda.”

Gripping Kales’ hand with her free one Karla squeezed it lightly. “I’m not going anywhere babe trust me, the devil is a liar. “

“Seen babe I thought something happened.”

“Something did but we can talk about it later.”

“Well… since everything is all good I will get with you later. Me and Daze got business to deal with.”

Sighing heavily she watched as they skipped across the road in unison her mind heavy with the truth. Erasing the voicemail had been an instant reaction to her admittance of guilt but she wasn’t guilty of no crime. Staring at the car as it drove by she grimaced as Dale winked her way his sickly sweet smile a poisonous bite to a fragile victim.

There was no more running even if it killed her Kale needed to know the truth.

THE TASTE OF KARMA

Her eyes spoke of internal pain the rain dripping down her face as she wept in vain. Although her blood cooled slightly her distress would not be in vain. One to many times she had been so forgiving, totally disregarding the consequences of her weakness. Now she wanted nothing more than vindication only blood could bring.
The laughter dancing inside ears tormenting her in the dark alleyway. Stepping out from beneath the shadows her silhouette kissed by the light a passer by could see her beauty. The very thing covered in the darkness that had engulfed her soul letting everything loving whiter and die.
In this moment anything was possible!

Reckless abandonment brought her here. Outside the bar that housed their reception, his wedding. She had rebuked at the thought his pimple face maturing into a man while her smooth skin rippled with wrinkles.
The day he confessed his love for another she swore she heard the sound of her heart breaking, ripping through her chest and exposing the emptiness inside.

Music filtered out of the open door, her breath clutched inside her lungs as they stepped out of the pub hand in hand. Treasure giggled gayley but to her it sounded like the scrapping of a chalkbroad. Soaking in the rays of his love, the recipient of his attention Teasure basked in his glow. Closing her eyes as their lips almost touched a shard of her shattered heart.

Holding onto the last piece of her sanity she waited for a complete glimpse of the woman who had achieved the impossible. As her body turned and her face came to view something strange happened. Face to face as they near Treasure had a darkness in her eyes as sight she had seen before he tore her heart out.

There was no recollecting of the moment her sparkle died an instantly she knew Teasure would find out sooner or later.Suddenly her pain seem insignificant as she understood she too would meet the same fate.
” Congratulations.” She offered to the newly weds.

“Thanks.”

The look on his face was priceless as hey past hand in hand. Turning back to the darkness she smiled sweetly the taste of karma resting upon her lips. .
