READ ME : ONCE AND FOREVER

ONCE AND FOREVER:
“Nothing else matters! If you got my back, I got yours. We can face this together!” Steven spat with conviction.
.
Standing beneath the decaying oak tree they had so many times explored, Krishna stared into the eyes she searched for in any crowd and faltered. Three years later and even a foot apart the electricity he supplied to her body coursed through her viens.
.
There was no easy way to do this!
.
How could she tell him they would never work?
How gently could she break their hearts?
.
Steven shook his head angrily, “Don’t say it! I can see it in your eyes, you’ve given up.”
.
Lowering her gaze she hid her shame beneath his shadow as she stepped closer  embracing him in her arms.
.
“I’m sorry but I have to!” She replied with a heavy heart. ” You wouldn’t understand!”
.
“What about us!” He cried.
.
“There can be no us, I have to do what’s right.”
.
Shaking his head in disbelief Steven took a long look at the woman who had stolen his heart and sighed.
.
It was as if he had deflated in her arms, his body shrinking before her eyes.
.
“One day this will be a memory and I will just be someone you knew.”
.
“You cant deny what we had.” He spat. “We loved…”
.
Cutting through his truth Krishna snapped, “For both our sakes forget me.”
.
Turning on her heels she gathered the broken pieces of her heart together.  Walking away she knew she would never forget , the feel of his skin or the dimple in his cheek. There would be nothing more unforgettable than the joy she had when he smiled in her direction or the way he loved her without conditions.
.
Shaking wild thoughts of him from her head she opened her car door and sat down heavily. Looking into the rear view mirror at  his silhouette still abandoned beneath the tree, she wiped her burning tears.
.
There was no time for self sacrifice, she had to think of everyone else.
.
Love would come later.
