DO YOU SEE ME…..
There is a struggle within
The air I breathe
Confined by others insecurities.
Broad shoulders, strong back
Dissapointed by the opportunities
Smeared by portrayals in the media of what it means to be black.
True identity, culture and sport is what they lack.
Im eyed suspiously without cause
Rarely guide through with applause
There is a struggle within
The air I breathe
A son, A brother but first a man
The inability to control views first hand
No one sees the father or the nephew
Indiscriminately they glare
With an unbridled stare
Unfazed by brown eyes that show no fear.
There is a struggle within
The air I breathe
As I dig deep to see me
To walk the steps in the spirt of the free.
Examining the hidden messages aimed at me.
I breed new life into the vision I see.
Tall strong and culturally obsessed
Intelligence and security I possess
Passed forward for free so
The struggle within
The air I breathe
Dies with me.
