BLACK
I came from the dirt, history surrounded with hurt.
But life it prevailed.
Uncovered and shined, with a future redefined.
No longer on ships we sail
I AM BLACK
Them old, jagged scars and flapping flesh wounds,
Diminished throughout the generations.
Solidified in the melody of soulful tunes,
For a new and improved nation
I AM BLACK
Activist years of being uplifted, unlimited talent hidden by the gifted
There is a lack of opportunities
But we have been sanded and smooth and untarnished by blame
But lacking a complete unity
I AM BLACK
Systematic exclusion
Designed to tame
The Uneducated exspolsion
Driving youthful surviours insane
I AM BLACK!
Our future is not far from our past,
There is a time to rise.
Although our legacy struggles in modern times to flourish, to last.
It’s time to live and not survive
I AM BLACK!
So far from the struggle but living another,
So many pre-mature deaths
The sound of shattered hearts and the cry mourning mothers
So much blood shed and many stolen breaths
I AM BLACK
Weeping, for the new, still recovering from the old
This, is the time. The time to reducate
Remembering the history told
As Culture and pride becomes one and in flesh we elevate.
I AM BLACK
Aiming for survival,
Old values a bible.
Rejoicing in a historical revival
My cry, audible.
I.
AM.
BLACK.
